am I like the other nine?

PictJesusHealsLeperRembrandt1655-60

Luke 17:11-19

Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.  The as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off.  And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”  So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go show yourselves to the priests.”  And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.  And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks.  And he was a Samaritan.  So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed?  But where are the nine?  Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”  And He said to him, “Arise, go your way.  Your faith has made you well.”

I love to read stories in the Bible because when you are truly reading and seeking Him, amazing truths seem to pop out of the page and right into your lap.

There were ten lepers in the village that Jesus passed through.  They were miserable and wore a horrible disease and they all wanted the same thing….to be healed.  I wonder if they had heard about Jesus performing miracles in other towns and decided to take a chance and cry out for healing.

SIDE NOTE:  Have you ever wanted something so bad and you’ve prayed that God would answer your prayer (the way you wanted it answered) and were actually stunned when He does?  Or did you even notice that HE answered…..not karma, not good luck….but GOD.

What did you do?  Did you drop to your knees and thank Him?  I know that there are so many times (gulp) that I have used God as a genie….or made a silent pact with Him, like, ‘ok…if you do this…then I’ll do this…”

Thankfully, when I asked God to come into my life, the Holy Spirit set up shop right there inside my heart.  As a believer, I am like a container for God being filled with His goodness and joy and HE should always be first in my life and in my actions.  In Psalm 119:11, David says, “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.”

But in this passage of Luke, only one leper gave thanks.  Only one leper looked down as he walked to show himself to the priest and saw healing.  Unbelievable.  The one thing he wanted more than any….he was healed.

But that wasn’t the only miracle.

Can you hear the sadness in Jesus’ voice?  “Were there not ten cleansed?  But where are the nine?  Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”

Jesus saw only one leper return and give thanks and Jesus says one more thing…”Arise, go your way.  Your faith has made you well.”  Ten were healed but one was healed AND forgiven.  Your faith has made you well.

Can you recognize God’s blessings?  Has He healed you of something….disease, finances, job…..have you thanked Him?  I don’t want to be like the other nine lepers….so excited about their healing that they either forgot or said, “That’s okay God, I can take it from here.”

I am thankful for God’s grace.  He doesn’t keep score and no amount of ‘good works’ will make Him love us anymore.  I want to have Him in my heart and on my lips so when I receive His blessings I will immediately be reminded of His love and grace.

oy vey….

A Jewish businessman in Chicago sent his son to Israel for a year to absorb the culture.

When the son returned, he said, “Papa, I had a great time in Israel.  Oh, and by the way, I converted to Christianity.”

“Oy vey,” said the father.  “What have I done?”  He took his problem to his best friend, Ike.

“Ike,” he said, “I sent my son to Israel, and he came home a Christian.  What can I do?”

“Funny you should ask,” said Ike.  ” I, too, sent my son to Israel, and he also came home a Christian.  Perhaps we should go see the rabbi.”

So they did….and they explained their problem to the rabbi.

“Funny you should ask,” said the rabbi.  “I,too, sent my son to Israel and he also came home a Christian.  What is happening to our young people?”

And so they all prayed, tell the Lord about their sons.

As they finished their prayer, a voice came from the heavens:  “Funny you should ask,” said the Voice, “I too, sent my Son to Israel……”

HAPPY EASTER MY FRIENDS!!!!  HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!!!

what easter really, really, really means….

FIRST WATCH THIS….AND THEN READ…..

It’s not just another holiday….
You see, Christ’s resurrection is more than just a cause for celebration or a special season
in the church calendar. It is the very foundation of our faith!

If Jesus does not live today, then we have not been saved and we will not have eternal life.

In 1 Corinthians 15:14 and 19, Paul put it this way:

“and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain . . . If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.”

But Jesus did rise from the dead, He is alive, and His resurrection makes all the difference in the world for you today, and for all eternity!

Because Jesus Christ rose from the dead, you can be confident that:

God is real. Because He lives, we have the proof we need that the One we serve is God —unlike all the other deities in all the dead religions of the world.

Your sins are forgiven. Think about this: in most religions, forgiveness depends on your good works. But as a Christian, you are forgiven the moment you accept Him as your Savior, because He conquered death and paid the penalty for your sin.

He is at work in your life. The Bible teaches very clearly that Jesus is seated at the Father’s right hand, interceding on our behalf. He is a living God who answers our prayers, and He has sent His Holy Spirit to teach and guide us until He returns.

Your body will be resurrected. When you die, you won’t simply be a shapeless, faceless spirit. You will have a recognizable body just as Christ did when He rose again. In Philippians 3:20-21 we are told:

“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.”

To be resurrected into “conformity with the body of His glory” means that your body will be of the same substance as His risen body. You’ll be visible. You’ll be able to eat, walk and move from one place to another—yet in a way that is not limited by space and time.

• You will have a home in heaven. In John 14:3, Jesus tells us that “I go to prepare a place for you . . . that where I am you may be also.”

Forgiveness of sins, a relationship with a living Lord, a new home in heaven—it’s no wonder that we celebrate Easter!

day after…day what…..

Ok, so we’re on our last day in Israel.  It’s going to be action packed and begins at 5:30am and never ends……no, seriously…..it never ended.  We had a lot of ground to cover and then we had to get back to the hotel, pack and leave for the airport, where our flight left at 11:55pm.  Yes.  11:55 PM!  This was going to be a loooooong, rainy and cold day for us, for sure.  BUT…..when you put on your armor in the morning (Ephesians 6:10-18)you can be prepared for anything!!

So let’s all go to the Garden.  Yes, the Garden of Gethsamane.   Known to have some of the oldest olive trees in the Holy Land!  The trees that are present now are actually the saplings of the original olive trees from the time of Jesus.

Nice to go there and meditate, and imagine that you are at the same tree that Jesus sat, when He prayed.

Again, it was another rainy day but that didn’t keep us from our mission!  We had to see EVERYTHING!

From King David’s Tomb, to the Mount of Olives, to the Garden Tomb….I’m running out of breath.  But one of the coolest places we visited was the Temple Mount.

This is located in one of the world’s most significant pieces of land.  It is the site of the Temples built by Solomon and Herod and is the most sacred site for the Jewish people.  It’s been said that it is the  place where “the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground” (Genesis 2:7) and where Abraham bound Isaac for sacrifice.  It is also the same site that David bought from Araunah (Oman) the Jebusite, for fifty shekels of silver, to build an altar to the Lord.  His son Solomon took seven years to build a small but lavishly decorated Temple here.  This is where the Ark of the Covenant (containing the 10 commandments).  Then the Temple was destroyed by the Babylonians and built about 50 years later.  I could go on and on about who built and who destroyed… but when Caliph Omar went to Jerusalem in 638, he found the hilltop trashed out and desolate.  And since this was the spot that was considered to be Mohammed’s journey to heaven, he decided to build a mosque.

Today the Temple Mount (Dome of the Rock) has been built on the same spot where the Temple once stood.  It is sacred to the Jews, the Christians AND the Muslims….(can’t we all just get along?) It is beautiful and creepy, all at the same time.

But check this out….THAT is the Eastern Gate or the Golden Gate.  This is cool because the Bible indicates that Jesus passed through these gates frequently AND THIS is the gate that He will enter and reign FOREVER!

According to the Bible, the Messiah will come through the Golden Gate of the old city of Jerusalem and will bring about the resurrection of the dead in the cemetery on the mount.  It is to the Mount of Olives that Jesus will return in the last days…..

Ezekiel 44:1-3″ Then he brought me back the way of the gate of the outward sanctuary which looketh toward the east; and it was shut. Then said the Lord unto me; This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter in by it; because the Lord, the God of Israel, hath entered in by it, therefore it shall be shut. It is for the prince; the prince!”

THE EASTERN GATE REMAINS SHUT AND IS AWAITING THE PRINCE OF PEACE!!! HALLELUJAH!

Zechariah 14:4 ” And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.”

The LORD is going to return and open the gate.    Wow and double wow!

Ok, my peeps!!  Tomorrow we leave for Israel!  I am going to be taking my laptop so I can download pictures and you can see what I see….

I’m excited.  I have packed, un-packed, re-packed and then started over again, about 6 times.  I think I might have finally accepted what I am going to be taking.

Today I will spend the time cooking for Jimmy….although he knows and I know that he will be spending the evenings at Mortons Steakhouse.  So….just in case he doesn’t feel like steak…well, he will have spanish rice, beans, chilaques and tortillas.  That way he can have tacos or burritos….whatever his little heart desires….He’s so easy….

So, wish us a safe journey and because of the time change, there might be a day of no posting…..but you will hear from us soon!!!

where’d she go??

Pretty soon (March 3rd) I’ll be heading off to Israel!!!  This will be my second trip and I’m sure it will be just as wonderful as the first!

But here’s the dealio…..I’m taking my iPad and have (finally) figured out how to download my pictures.  So each day I will download pictures and tell about where we are and what we’re doing.

Bad part…….I cannot get the pictures to my blog page..  (insert gasps and wailing here)…Soooo….if you want to know ALL ABOUT the trip….I will need you to check Facebook.  If you are somewhere out there and are NOT my Facebook friend…..send a request and I will add you.  Unless you are a creeper….then, I’m not sure what I’ll do.

So, each day I will post pictures and tell a little bit about each one so you can ‘walk with me’.  Although your ‘walk’ will be a tad  less expensive than mine… but YOU WON’T GET BLISTERS!!

It’s going to be great and I can’t wait to let you in on all the scoop.  Don’t you want Jerusalem scoop?  Sure you do!!!

Just think!  You can live vicariously through me!  How fun is that?  Super fun, I tell you.

So, let’s get this Facebook thingy out of the way and start living the life……..

SHALOM!!!
