only God…
the real power…
from Lifeway devotionals 1 Corinthians 1:18-25
To those who are perishing, the message of the cross is foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is God’s power. 1 Corinthians 1:18, HCSB
Don’t be surprised when not everyone is as excited about the gospel as you are! As you enjoy the thrill of walking with Jesus, you may be surprised when others choose not to experience God in the same exciting way you do.
Paul understood that those who approach Christianity with skepticism will never find any power in it. Such people consider the gospel foolishness. On the other hand, those who truly believe the good news discover firsthand the power of God.
Why is it some people never experience God’s activity in their lives? Because their lack of faith prevents them from seeing him at work. Their rejection of the truth ultimately costs them their lives. However, those who approach God with faith see him at work, and they experience his mighty power on a regular basis.
The Bible says some people simply refuse to accept the truth of the cross. To nonbelievers the Christian message is nonsense, so it holds no power for them. They can’t understand how anyone could accept it. They may even ridicule you for believing it!
But never stop sharing the good news simply because some people reject it. There will be those who do accept the truth of Christ, and you will see them experience God at work in their lives in the same powerful way he has worked in yours.
Why wouldn’t God just knock everybody down with his truth?

did your guy win?
Oh, my…..what an election night it was!! But here we are….the day after…
Did your guy win? Whether your guy won or not, we are still commanded to obey our government.
Romans 13:1-2, “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.”
The speed limit applies to believers and non-believers alike! Taxes have to be paid by both parties! We are to be in submission to our government, as Jesus said, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s” (Luke 20:25).
So…now we pray. No matter who is elected….we pray. We plead for our country. We pray for our president, those who counsel him, the Senate and the House.
The righteous Judge of all the earth – the TRUE SUPREME COURT – says, “Go make disciples of all the nations.” In other words, talk about Jesus. HE is the SUPREME JUDGE of all the earth, and as christians, we belong to Him.
So, pray. Don’t worry and don’t fear. God has equipped us to handle life as it comes, but if you spend our day worrying about tomorrow, you will get tired and frustrated. He wants us to be free from all anxiety and stress. Don’t let your interests be divided between Him and the things in this world! It’s easy to say we trust the Lord, but He wants to see the “fruit” of it! Refuse to worry!
So, pray.
Be humble before the King of Kings.
Maybe your guy won….maybe he didn’t. Either way…….pray.

Bathing with the Gaithers, and other blessings…
Oh….stop it. There wasn’t enough room IN the tub for all of us, so I just listened to them sing on my iPad, while I enjoyed my detox bath. (where is your mind, people?)
Yes, my morning was lovely. I am so blessed. I have a husband that works so very hard, so I don’t have to (insert prayer request for him HERE)
So here is a little snippet of my perfect morning ….. It started around 6 ish, (why start earlier, hmm?) I kissed my sweetie and shoo’ed him out the door, grabbed my bible along with my notebook for some much needed quiet time.
I’m studying (for the 2nd time) Kelly Minter’s Lifeway study called, No Other God’s. Have you seen it? You can find it here and I HIGHLY recommend it! I know that idol worship may seem like something from the Old Testament, but anything that takes a higher priority over God (read: job, hobby, Facebook, cell phone..eeek!) is considered an idol. It is eye opening and you really should get this book.
So, back to the day. I did my study for the day, had my prayer time and then decided it was time for a Juice! I went in the garage to get Jack LaLanne…..ok, not the REAL Jack, but his fabulous juicer. Easy to use and easy to clean!
Carrots, celery, apple and ginger……yummmmy. Thankfully, when I get my produce home, I immediately grate, separate, chop and bag everything, and this makes it super easy to make a juice!
If I were really smart, I would place the apple, carrots, celery and piece of ginger into it’s own ziploc and label CARROT JUICE. That’s what I would do if I were really smart……. (insert sound of crickets here)…………..maybe next time.
Once I had my sweet juice, I decided it would be a good time for my detox bath. I grabbed my Epsom Salts, baking soda, grated ginger and The Gaithers, and headed for the bathroom. I grew up with southern gospel music and enjoy it so much! It’s right up there on the list of sweet tea and big hair! It’s the perfect storm!!!
While the Gaithers were singing, I was relaxing and thanking God for my perfect morning. He is so good and I am so very blessed! What a great time and a privilege to thank Him for all my blessings! This is my meditation! I don’t need to ommmm…in a yoga class, I can speak directly to the creator of the universe!! How powerful is that?
Never get so busy that you forget to spend time in His Word and in prayer. You are denying yourself the blessing of hearing His voice and feeling His presence. He has provided everything you need for freedom of burdens, so STOP. LOOK. LISTEN.
And have the perfect beginning to a perfect day!!!
