seriously…are you going to drink that??

Oh, it’s on us now….the HOLIDAY parties are here!!  Are you ready?  Do you know what is in that drink you’re holding?  Hmmm??

I didn’t think so….that’s why I’m here.  Now you can feel really guilty about your next indulgence…

1. Peppermint Mocha (coffeehouse…which is code for Starbucks), made with whole milk and whipped cream.

Per 16-ounce serving:

3. Hot Buttered Rummade with butter, brown sugar, spices, whipped cream, and rum.  (Note: The name pretty much says it all. On average, one cup of hot buttered rum contains two tablespoons of butter. (For those counting, the butter alone adds 200 calories and 36 grams of fat to the drink.)

Per serving:

418 calories

35 g carbohydrate

17 g fat

11 g saturated fat

51 mg cholesterol

4. Pumpkin Spice Latte  (coffeehouse),made with pumpkin spice flavors, espresso, steamed milk, and whipped cream.

6. White Russianmade with vodka, coffee liqueur, and 1 1/2 ounces liquid light whipping cream.

8 g saturated fat (3 if using half-and-half)

47 mg cholesterol (16 with half-and-half)

7. Eggnog  (regular store-bought, not including any added liquor)  Eggnog isn’t the friendliest diet drink for holiday celebrations. It’s full of booze, eggs, sugar, and full-fat dairy. And, if it’s store bought, it probably has a nice helping of corn syrup in it too.

Per 1-cup serving: 350 calories

34 g carbohydrate

19 g fat

11 g saturated fat

149 mg cholesterol

8. Hot Chocolate  (coffeehouse), made with steamed milk, mocha syrup, vanilla syrup, and whipped cream)

I don’t have to worry about the alcohol for myself, since I don’t drink, however…..who doesn’t love hot chocolate?  Who doesn’t love eggnog?  Ok, not everyone likes eggnog, but it’s easy to let empty calories sneak up on you.  Starbucks and other coffee houses do offer lighter versions of the regular, but remember…you might still be looking at 200 calories.  It can add up fast!!
